Correction

1. Doing wrong brings automatic penalties that eventually correct us.

"'Your own wickedness will correct you, and your backslidings will rebuke you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil and bitter thing that you have forsaken the Lord your God, and the fear of Me is not in you,' says the Lord God of hosts" (Jeremiah 2:19; see also Galatians 6:7-8).

2. God corrects us out of love for our eternal benefit.

"My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor detest His correction; for whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights" (Proverbs 3:11-12; see also Hebrews 12:5-11).

3. The goal is for us to examine ourselves in the light of the Bible and become self-correcting.

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17; see also 2 Corinthians 7:11; 2 Corinthians 13:5).
