The Spiritual Importance of Discernment

Wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and discernment are all critical components to making good choices in life. And choice we have. All around us are aspects of truth and error, right and wrong, and good and evil. How do we discern between these elements around us? What is discernment? What does God's word say about discernment and where does discernment come from? Proper discernment is critical for the Christian to operate their life in a society that struggles with real truth and understanding.

Michael Phelps and his wife Laura, and daughter Kelsey, attend the Ann Arbor, Detroit, and Flint Michigan congregations, where Michael serves as pastor.  Michael and Laura both grew up in the Church of God.  They attended Ambassador University in Big Sandy for two years (1994-96) then returned home to complete their Bachelor's Degrees.  Michael enjoys serving in the local congregations as well as with the pre-teen and teen camp programs.  He also enjoys spending time with his family, gardening, and running.
