When Runners Stumble

How Then Can the Race be Finished?

Paul, in 1 Corinthians 9, uses the analogy of running in a race so as to win an imperishable crown. Sometimes runners stumble and fall, as we all do in our own Christian race. Applying this lesson to our preparation for Passover, this sermon addresses three main points: 1) Things that cause us to stumble, and what that means; 2) How are we lifted up after having stumbled?; and, 3) What we can and should do to finish our race well. A video of an actual race was included, showing an amazing and inspiring physical example that can help us to learn spiritual lessons, as in the word pictures of racing in the Scriptures. (Interested listeners may search out the video on the internet.)

Welcome!  Here in Olympia and Tacoma, Washington, God has called two wonderful congregations of His children to fellowship together each Sabbath.  It is a blessing for me and my wife Nancy to serve them, and to serve alongside them.  Perhaps we’ll be blessed one day soon with your fellowship as well.  (Click on name to read more.)

Nancy and I both grew up in this faith from the early 1960’s, and have been married for over 41 years.  We have two children and five grandchildren.  I was ordained into the ministry in 1996, and was asked to serve as a full-time pastor in 2010.  Having moved to this area in 2015, we have grown to love the church family into which God has placed us.  To see them growing spiritually and in numbers is a special blessing from our Father and Jesus Christ.

We are here to serve the church and the community around us, especially in ways that reflect the light of Jesus Christ in this dark world and help lead those who our Father calls into the church, which is the body of Christ.  Please feel free to call or write if I may be of help to you in your spiritual journey.

Sincerely,

Roc Corbett
