Why Hollywood Gets the Bible Wrong - Part 1

Hollywood always seem to twist and distort Biblical and faith-based movies. Are there reasons why they get the Bible message wrong?

Transcript

[Gary Petty] We just finished doing a Beyond Today program on three ways Hollywood gets the Bible wrong.  We talked about how Hollywood movies, many times, twist and distort the Bible message, and there's reasons for that. Why do they get the Bible wrong so often, it seems like?

[Darris McNeely] Well, I think there's a bias against the Bible. I think there's a bias against God. And it's openly admitted by many of the directors and producers that will bring out these movies that have come out, atheistic leanings, and they just are not interested in getting the biblical story right because of some innate biases that are there against God and religion.

[Steve Myers] And then you've got to think of, why are they doing the movies, anyway? What's the purpose that they make the movies, is that there's money in it. You know, there's a religious audience out here that they can take their money and put it in their pockets, so I think that's really the premise that it begins with is that, okay, it's just entertainment, they're not trying to get it right, but they're trying to make a profit.

[Gary Petty] And the problem then of course is that over time, they distort the Biblical message. And as they distort that message, we end up with a culture of Christian agnostics – people who claim to be Christian but really don't understand what the Bible says. It's time to get into your Bible.
